Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a global civil society organization dedicated to reimagining security and civilian protection in conflict-affected areas. Through Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP), NP works alongside communities to interrupt and prevent violence, enhancing their security and dignity, and transforming responses to conflict. Since 2020, NP has applied these strategies in the U.S. to address cycles of violence and foster community cohesion through protective presence, training, safety planning, and rapid response.

The Nonviolent Peaceforce U.S. (NPUS) is seeking a part-time, non-exempt Policy & Advocacy Assistant to join its Advocacy team, part of the External Engagement function. This role primarily supports NP's advocacy efforts towards the U.S. government and contributes to the broader global Policy and Advocacy team, with a specific focus on the federal appropriations process.

Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting research on the impacts of U.S. government foreign aid funding.
- Submitting federal appropriations requests to relevant congressional offices.
- Educating congressional staffers on the significance of key foreign aid accounts.
- Drafting advocacy materials based on NP’s program and policy work.
- Tracking legislative developments and pertinent committee hearings.
- Reviewing and summarizing key policies, statements, and documents related to conflict contexts.
- Representing NP in meetings and events with civil society, including taking notes and preparing readouts.
- Supporting NP’s programmatic teams in broader civil society organizing efforts.
- Providing administrative support, such as preparing for events, assisting with data management, and formatting public documents.

Training and feedback will be provided to the successful candidate. The position is based in Washington D.C., U.S., operating on a hybrid model.
