Figma employees are highly engaged with AI, and the Internal AI team (part of FTS, our Business Technology organization) helps transform this energy into significant impact by making it easier for every Figmate, including those in Sales, Support, Finance, People, and Legal, to safely adopt and utilize AI to enhance their work. This small, high-leverage team is structured around three pillars: Platform & Tooling, Infrastructure & Hosting, and Applied AI Builds. This role is a key member of the Applied AI Builds pillar.
As an AI Engineer, Internal Tools, you will collaborate directly with various teams across Figma to identify high-value AI opportunities and guide them through to production. This involves understanding business workflows, rapidly prototyping solutions, evaluating their effectiveness, and integrating them with the necessary systems and data for real-world utility. This role focuses on delivering production-ready solutions, assessing where AI provides the most value versus traditional rules-based software, and shaping how agents can securely execute actions across enterprise systems. As common patterns emerge, you will partner with the Platform & Tooling and Infrastructure teams to develop reusable capabilities that accelerate and enhance the safety of future AI builds.
This is a full-time position that can be based at one of our US hubs or performed remotely within the United States.

Requirements & Qualifications
- 5+ years of software engineering experience building production applications, integrations, backend systems, or AI-powered products
- Hands-on experience building applications with LLMs, agents, retrieval-augmented generation, function calling, schema-constrained outputs, or evaluation frameworks
- Experience taking an AI application or workflow beyond a prototype and operating it in a production environment
- Strong API, integration, and system design fundamentals, with experience implementing client-side or backend APIs and integrating with enterprise applications
- Hands-on experience building applications with LLMs, agents, retrieval-augmented generation, function calling, schema-constrained outputs, or evaluation frameworks
- Experience taking an AI application or workflow beyond a prototype and operating it in a production environment
